Thirty days for mango hustle

BY ARTHUR GREEN, Freelance Writer

st. thomas

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Courtney Lewis of Hamstead in Yallahs, St. Thomas was given a 30 day jail term for 'delinquent behaviour', when he appeared before the Resident Magistrate's Court in Yallahs to answer a charge of larceny last week.

Lewis, who was kicked out of school at 16, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court was told that Lewis took up a box of mangoes belonging to someone he said he knew. The box, containing East Indian mangoes worth approximately $6,000, was left at a bus stop. The owner of the mangoes had gone a short distance away to fetch an additional box.

The accused man in accepting that his action was unacceptable begged the judge saying: "Ease mi up your 'onor a hussle mi did a go hussle".

R.M. Carol Sutherland smiled when handing down the judgement and warned Lewis that his action must not be repeated.
