Jamaica selects 10 new players for Under-19 tournament

KINGSTON, JAMAICA (AP)

JAMAICA'S CRICKET SELECTORS have named 10 new players to a 14-man squad that will play in next month's Under-19 tournament in Barbados.

The squad will again be captained by opening batsman Jamie Trenchfield, one of three survivors from the team that made the semi-finals in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2005, Brian Breese, chief executive officer of the Jamaica Cricket Association, said yesterday.

The selectors also retained batsman Zeniffe Fowler, off-spinner Cordell Simpson and fast bowler Andre Russell, who also played in last year's championship.

The rest of the players are Andre Creary, Marlon Johnson, Robert Weir, Sheldon Powell, Rasheed Outar, Christopher Watson, Marcel Parchment, Andre Lindsay, Jason Dawes and Shacoya Thomas.

The squad is coached by former Jamaica and West Indies batsman Robert Samuels. The tournament starts July 22.
