NORMAN BARTON WILL be hoping his jealous rage does not cause him to get a long prison sentence when he returns to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court next month.
Barton, 46, of Kintyre, St. Andrew, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm after he punched and kicked his ex-girlfriend as she walked, in the community with her fiance.
The court was told that the complainant was walking with her fiancé when Barton attacked her. Barton reportedly 'rained' blows' all over her body causing her to fall. He then proceeded to kick her several times all over her body. She was rescued by her fiancé who intervened in the matter.
When the matter came before Resident Magistrate Georgiana Frazer, Barton said he was 'guilty with explanation'. Barton told the court that he was overcome by jealousy when he saw his former woman walking with another man and knowing they were about to get married.
"Your honour, we used to talk an' live good and tings change. So when mi see har an' him mi get a likkle jealous," he said.
RM Frazer was not amused, however, and said Barton needed a lesson in anger management. She ordered a probation report into the accused background and put off sentencing for July 27 when the matter will again be mentioned.
