Thirty years- no water

THE EDITOR MADAM,

I am endorsing a letter a few weeks ago in The Gleaner in regards to no water being in Tambana Heights in the district of Somerton, East Central St James, for the past 30 years.

It is cynical on the part of the relevant authorities to try and mitigate the discomfort and the hardship that is beyond human tolerance.

It is true that various MPs and Councillors, had meetings during their tenure. However it seems as if it is just promises that are a comfort to a fool, especially during the election period.

It is also true that water is trucked occasionally. However it is quite obvious that this can't solve this ongoing problem for the past 30 years. Tambana Heights residents need running water in the pipes.

Difficulties exist with senior citizens purchasing trucked water with their meagre pension.

I think the relevant authorities should really take this into consideration in acting promptly.

Children are oftentimes seen carrying water approximately three quarter mile every morning before school, especially during the dry season.

The St. James Parish Council, the Government and the NWC should collaborate and act now. We the citizens do not have to burn tyres and block the roads for such a vital commodity as water. It is our right to have running water.

I am, etc.
