Welcome to the 'Jungle'

Patrons get wild at the Jungle in Negril. - CONTRIBUTED

THE STAR continues its look at entertainment venues on the north coast this week with a look at The Jungle nightclub.

FIVE YEARS AND counting and the Jungle nightclub is still deemed Negril's number one party spot. The family owned business is widely regarded as the premier nightclub in Negril.

Dean Wallace, the club's General Manager, claims that the club originated because, "Negril was dying for a nightclub at the time". Unlike the other types of entertainment offered in Negril, the Jungle represents a unique step to exclusive night-time recreation. Jungle is opened as long as there are patrons ready to party, Wallace said.

Appropriately themed, the decor has a real 'wild' vibe. Patrons 'wild out' in an atmosphere conducive to uninhibited antics. Mr. Wallace describes the decor thus: "Inside there are a lot of plants, a real waterfall inside and outside. Our logo is a tiger, with eyes aglow for the full jungle effect."

The club offers diverse recreation starting from International Night Wednesdays, Thursday is Ladies Night, Friday is guest DJ Night featuring DJs like Zip's ZJ Liquid and Saturday Night is Party Night with the club's own DJ Rusty at the turntables. Other than the ordinary, the club also puts on a variety of live concerts, with acts such as Beenie Man, TOK, CéCile, Elephant Man, Third World and more.

The mix of patrons are diverse, with local and international support. According to Wallace there is a holistic environment as the hotels are really supportive, sending people over on a nightly basis. Mr. Wallace boasts that his club has a "very safe and hassle free environment, the patrons enjoy that". It would seem that even celebrities enjoy the environment, as a night at the Jungle may include a 'close encounter' with celebrities. Lennox Lewis, Lisa Hanna, supermodel Nicki Vassel, and George Jefferson are only a few of the big names who have made appearances at the Jungle.

Wallace describes the Jungle as having a 'wow' factor, that patrons always give rave reviews of the club. "We deliver great entertainment, 99% of people who come here always return," he said. A frequent patron, Shadiik Manya, proclaims, "Jungle is hype and I can't wait for summer." Jungle will be the 'After Hours Headquarters' for Absolute Weekend.
