A MAN WHO was allegedly found with 155.45kg of marijuana was refused bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Vincent Wellesley, the lawyer representing the accused, Carlton Jackson, 51, said that his client was being held because the police had a feeling that the drugs belonged to him, but there was no proof.
On May 11 of this year at approximately 8:30 p.m. a team from the Narcotics Division went to a house on Hughenden Avenue in St. Andrew where they searched the premises and a Nissan Serena van and allegedly found six knitted bags and a plastic bag of what they believe is marijuana. As a result Jackson and four other people who were on the premises were arrested and charged with possession, taking steps preparatory to export marijuana and conspiracy. The other men held, Michael Higgins, Janet Simpson, Gayon Brown and Tracey-Ann Dunn were eventually granted bail.
Jackson was left with the responsibility of the house and the vehicle which are owned by Marlene Eng. Wellesley said that there was no hard evidence that the drugs was either in the car before Miss Eng left the vehicle in his possession or it was put there after she left. Wellesley said that there is no statement from her on record with regards to the incident.
However, Jackson was remanded into custody until June 29 for mention.
