ALBERT 'TONY' EDWARDS, the man charged with the February 14 murder of 36-year-old Paul 'Bugjo' Williams, is to appear in the summer session of the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court later this month.
The case against Edwards, 34, from Santa Cruz in the parish, was committed to circuit following the completion of the preliminary inquiry which started in the Santa Cruz RM Court last Thursday. Two of the three witnesses - Roy Sherman and Paul Robinson both masons - who gave similar accounts of what they saw, said on the day in question about 6:30 p.m., they were at the work site across from the St. Elizabeth High School, when they heard noise in a yard coming from both men arguing over money. They said the heated argument started in Santa Cruz and developed into a fight.
The court heard that both men began throwing stones at each other, while the accused shouted "gi mi meh money." Williams ran and stepped on a board and slipped. It is alleged that the board was then used to hit him and a rachet knife used to stab him several times in both legs.
After the incident, Williams ran to a house and begged for some water. By the time the water came, he collapsed and was taken to hospital.
They said a woman whose house they were working on, asked the accused how much money he should get and he said $6,000. She gave him a cheque for that amount.
The accused handed himself over to the police the same evening and was charged with murder. The medical report indicated that the deceased died from haemorrage of the legs.
The accused is on $1 million bail but it has not yet been taken up.
