A 45-YEAR-old man was killed on Friday when he was run over by a bauxite train in St. Catherine. He is Carlton Williams, a labourer from Dam Head district in the parish.
According to Inspector Patrick Murdock, head of the St. Catherine North Traffic department, about 4:45 a.m. a Windalco train left Windalco to Port Esquivel and upon reaching a section of the track, the driver of the train observed an object on the track. He applied the brakes but the train still ran over the body which turned out to be Williams.
The injured Williams was taken to the G.C. Foster area where the police was contacted. They took him to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury. The Inspector said that it is not known what Mr. Williams was doing on the track at that time, as a bicycle was found nearby. He said that investigations continue in the matter.
Meanwhile, the Ferry Police is searching for the driver of a Toyota Coaster bus that drove away after causing a major accident along the Mandela Highway. Several persons were injured in the accident.
