Justice For 'Gash Dem'

THE EDITOR, Madam

Why is it that these reality songs always get banned? These songs show the typical situation in Jamaica.

Let me emphasise a clip from di song "A Bigman like you rape off a six-year-old baby," which is typical of what is going on in Jamaica. Chuck Fenda is just preaching against acts like these from adults. This song speaks against criminality in Jamaica. As far as I am concerned, the best music is being banned. I have heard songs that in fact encourage violence and get regular airplay, and have never been banned. I think the relevant authority should get civilised. I think the public is owed a full explanation as to why this song is banned from playing on the air. I think this is an act of foolishness.

Di singer neva seh 'gas dem', him seh 'gash dem'. If members of the public misinterpret the essence of the song, that's not his fault. He is just referring to a burning and typical issue that speaks to violence and crime in our society.

The business of music needs a union, a body of unionised people to fight for their moral rights.

I am, etc.,
