JAMAICA'S CHAMPION JOCKEY, Trinidadian Brian Harding, and Wesley Henry are down to join several top riders from the Caribbean and the United States for Trinidad and Tobago's big Indian Arrival card set for next Tuesday.
The association will be the main sponsor for the main two races on the day's card - the Fairchance Racing Service Eric "Colt" Durant Memorial Turf Handicap, and the Bookmakers Association Guineas Stakes.
The Bookmakers Association Guineas Stakes is the first leg of the local triple crown series.
Harding is aboard one of the top contenders, Windjammer, drawn alongside Angel of Music, another favourite, in gates 13 and 12, respectively.
Henry will break from gate nine aboard Bold Mover in the 1800-metre event on the main track.
Other top jockeys taking part in the day's proceedings include Barbadians Juan Crawford and Christopher Husbands as well as US-based T&T jockey Navin Mangalee.
The Bookmakers Association of Trinidad and Tobago, anxious to boost the development of horse racing in the country and the Caribbean, is pumping T&T$150,000 (US$23,847) sponsorship into the day's card.
Association president, Peter George, pledged his organisation's support for racing at the official launch, yesterday at Crowne Plaza Hotel.
"The bookmakers association plays an important role in the survival of the local racing industry. I am also proud to say that communications between the Arima Race Club, the Betting Levy Board and the Bookmakers Association are extremely cordial," George said.
"We are again looking forward to supporting local racing in the coming years," he added.
All other races on the Indian Arrival programme will be named after betting shops in T&T.
Also speaking at the launch was first vice-president of the Arima Race Club, Kama Maharaj.
He said the ARC is tremendously impressed by the involvement of the Bookmakers Association in local racing.
"We will be looking to the bookmakers association for ideas in the promotion and development of local racing. Sponsorship is important in racing, and in this regard, the ARC is very grateful to the Bookmakers Association for their kind gesture," Maharaj said.
In the Fairchance Racing Service Eric 'Colt' Durant Memorial over 1700 metres on the turf, top entry Invincibility will carry the high weight of 56.5kg in the seven-horse field.
