WESTERN BUREAU:
TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Hanover resident, Damion Harding, who tried to smuggle two pounds of ganja out of the island in bottles of liquor, was granted bail when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.
He pleaded guilty to possession, dealing in and taking steps to export ganja. He was granted bail in the sum of $30,000 and is to return to court for sentencing on June 6. Sentenced was delayed as RM Winsome Henry requested a social enquiry report from a probation officer.
Harding went to the Sangster International Airport on May 18 and checked in to board an Air Jamaica flight to Curaçao.
BAG SEARCHED
Sniffer dogs alerted the police to a travelling bag that he had checked in and he was summoned to the luggage chute where the bag was searched in his presence. A box of liquor that he had in the bag contained three bottles that each contained one parcel of ganja. The total weight was one pound.
He told the RM he was trying to make some money as he is presently unemployed and that his girlfriend was pregnant.
