PEOPLE POLL'S - Which party is better to run the country?

A person giving their fingerprint before voting. - FILE

THERE HAVE ALWAYS been debates about which of the two major political parties would be best for Jamaica. Both parties have die hard supporters who would stick by them no matter what. But as the levels of crime increase uncontrollably, many are thinking that a new government should be elected. In order to get a better idea of public thought toward this issue, we asked:

Which of the two major political parties do you think would do the best job of governing Jamaica at this time....the PNP or the JLP?

PNP 18%

JLP 26%

Not Sure 56%

This poll was conducted before Portia Simpson Miller was elected the country's new leader, and it is quite possible that the views of many may have changed since then. However, these results suggest that the majority of the people are not sure which government would be better. Perhaps this stance represents some level of frustration and the belief that no government is better than the other.

Though most of the respondents said they were unsure, 26 per cent said they thought the JLP would do a better job. This is in comparison to the 18 per cent that were in support of the PNP. These results could well be reflective of the people's hunger for change.

The poll was conducted on January 28 - 29 by Johnson Survey Research Limited

Sample size: 1008 residents

Age of sample: 16 and older

Sampling error: +/- 3.1 %
