POLICE HAVE REPORTED a marginal decline in multiple murders committed since the start of the year.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force's statistic department reports 20 double murders committed since January, a marginal decline from 24, reported from the same period in 2005.
Triple murders has seen higher reduction with three reported so far this year, a marked decline from the nine recorded last year, within the same time period.
There has been a rise however in group murders (four or more killed in one incident) this year, with two reported since the start of the year, up from none reported last year (in that time period).
One infamous case in St. Thomas gripped the nation on February 26, where the bodies of five family members were found (some with their throats slashed, and one partially burnt) Three pre-teens, two-year-old Marshall George McCool, Sean Chin, 8, and Jesse O'Gilvie, 9, were killed in the brutal group murder.
Multiple murders have become a common occurrence locally, with 73 double murders, 13 triple murders and three group murders committed in 2005.
