AN 18-YEAR-OLD youth who was caught in bed with a 14-year-old girl after she went to spend time with relatives, begged the court for bail claiming he was constantly beaten by his cell mates who disapproved of his action. He is Dwayne Smith of McCooks Pen, St. Catherine.
Investigating officer Tanisha Hylton of the Centre for Investi-gation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse in Spanish Town, told the court that on April 22, the child went into the McCooks Pen area to visit a relative and did not return when she should have. She added that five days later at 6:30 a.m. investigations launched by the police led them to a house in McCooks Pen where Smith and the child were found naked in bed.
The officer said Smith acknowledged that he has been having sex with the child for several months.
In court on Tuesday Smith told the RM that for two years now he has been having sex with the child but thought that she was more than 16. He was remanded in custody. He begged the RM "Yuh hona mi ca tek no more beaten de man dem ago flag mi properly, mi ca tek de beaten man". He was however remanded to reappear on May 18.
