Boys catching fish in flood waters in Harmons, Manchester. There are signs in the area that warn against swimming or fishing. - IAN ALLEN
SO WE KNOW from yesterday's results that 30 per cent of the people polled think that boys are harder to raise than girls. But what are the main reasons for this thinking? This is what we found out:
Why Boys Are More Difficult
Stubborn, don't listen, get into trouble .......38%
Gravitate toward crime ........................................31%
Need more expensive clothes ..........................21%
Influenced by friends/peers .............................14%
Often no role models (fathers) at home .........7%
It becomes clear then that the main reason why people feel that boys are harder to raise is because it is believed that they don't listen and are more prone to getting into trouble. Next on the list of reasons is the belief that boys, more than girls, tend to gravitate toward crime.
This belief has some basis since the majority of those involved in criminal activities are men. However, the fact that women get involved in criminal activities from time to time cannot be denied.
See tomorrow's poll for the reasons why 31 per cent of the people think that girls are harder to raise.
The poll was conducted on January 28-29 by Johnson Survey Research Limited
Sample size: 1,008 residents
