Sizzla makes a 'Sad Mistake'

Sizzla in awesome form on Dancehall Night at Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre, in Montego Bay, on July 21, 2005. - FILE

TODAY THE STAR continues one of its latest features, a weekly review of new songs. Three musical minds with different tastes will analyse each song and will grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be given our stamp of approval, 'Mus' Buss'. For those songs that fail, well they will be dumped under the 'Caan Buss' heading.

The three reviewers welcome feedback from the artistes and the public about the column. Send your comments to bussdem@hotmail.com, or if you are an artiste wishing your song to be reviewed, send the CD to:

This week the Mus' Buss/ Caan Buss team will be reviewing Sizzla's Sad Mistake, which warns about the consequences of disrespecting certain religious, social and racial groups.

xXx: I know it's Sizzla and everything, but I wouldn't listen to this more than once.

Queen: Well it's in keeping with his usual rant about not dissing people, but I'm still trying to make up my mind.

TAE: I agree, I agree with you all. Mi nuh know still, the rhythm kinda lame if you ask me, no disrespect to the producer. The lyrical content, though, speaks to maintaining a certain order and if you dis di order, Sizzla makes it clear that it will be a 'Sad Mistake'.

xXx: I agree TAE, the rhythm kinda lame still. I mean, I'm used to better stuff from Sizzla. Even if him other song dem nah talk bout nothing of significance, it usually hype and have more vibes. This one is very monotonous in terms of his melody and the rhythm.

Queen: There was obviously not much creativity in this song. There's nothing new about the lyrics, di rhythm boring, mi did expect better from Sizzla.

TAE: Yow, 'yuh caan dis black people', uno naa listen di song?

axXx: Mi caan concentrate long pon di song, between Queen's loud chewing over the song, the lame lyrics and boring rhythm, mi nuh know, how can I concentrate?

Queen: Bwoy mi a tell yuh, it hard fi mi listen to. There is nothing unique about the song that grabs my attention and makes me want to hear it over and over again.

TAE: Sizzla is a very talented artiste ... he has exceptional songs and normal songs. This, sad to say, falls in the 'just normal' category. 'No Buss' for Sizzla's Sad Mistake.

xXx: About four times mi did haffi start over the song because without even realising it, wi start do something else; that's never a good sign. Suh Sizzla mek a Sad Mistake this time, it 'Caan Buss'.

Queen: Bwoy, mi nuh like di song but mi nuh think Jamaica a guh agree wid mi. It was a mistake, yes, but one that will go somewhere, so I say it 'Mus' Buss'.
