Macka, Paula, bury hatchet

BY TEINO EVANS, Staff Reporter

Left: Queen Paula. Right: Macka Diamond - FILE

SINCE STING 2003, when Macka Diamond and Queen Paula made their feud public via lyrical battle on stage, the two artistes have been bitter at each other. Now, all that seems to be coming to an end, as the two recently made it known that they have decided to let bygones be bygones.

When Queen Paula strolled into the debut album launch of Macka Diamond's 'Money O' at the Weekenz Bar and Bistro recently, heads turned and eyes rolled in amazement that her nemesis dared to show. However, there was much that the public had not yet known.

"Everything cris man, to be frank mi did just keep thinking about it an wi pass da level deh now and at the end of the day wi did kinda feel a way and a lot of people keep asking," Macka Diamond told THE STAR in an interview.

THE FIRST MOVE

According to Macka Diamond, it was so much on her mind that she decided to make the first move one day and call.

"Mi jus look into it, cause she use to come roun mi studio an den is like she give up an just stop, an one day mi pick up di phone an call ar an mi seh how mi nuh si yuh a studio an she did sound surprised, an mi tell ar seh nuh worry, give up and she a seh yea fi real, yuh know seh a give up mi did give up," Macka Diamond recalled.

"At the end of the day, if mi can par wid people weh a fight mi worst than ar (Queen Paula), den a nuh no problem fi talk back to somebody who was a real friend at the time. People have been calling me and saying they actually feel good about it and fi know seh mi coulda give ar back a hope, it's all good," Macka Diamond added.

Queen Paula says, now that they have reconciled, the relationship is even stronger than before.

"Everything jus come back mutually, wi realize dat everything was just a stage thing, the relationship even stronger now, wi up an down, wi guh Uptown Mondays, Ding Dong ting, wi deh all bout an di vibes just all natural. Wi mussy get more mature now because at the time when we were throwing words, is like a jus a break wi did a look fah, but it was just a music ting," Queen Paula said.

According to Queen Paula, "mi did really lose a good friend but mi really happy when she come back cause she in a position weh she neva haffi talk back to mi, it's just a good feeling, all a wi (female artistes) can live same way. There will always be cussing and fighting but yuh haffi know how fi forgive and move on."

Both artistes have even been approached by producers to record a combination but Queen Paula says, "wi a wait pon di right producer weh can push it, mi nuh waan push up myself pon ar now an pull ar down, wi have time."

Queen Paula says despite her love for the passa passa on stage, sometimes it can get out of control. "Di people dem love it to, but sometimes di people dem tek it a way an it get too serious," she said.

Where other artistes and their long-standing feuds are concerned, Macka Diamond says, "I believe there is hope for everyone, I think they can come together and right yah now wi have a new ting weh wi call 'build back', where artistes and selectors a try fi build back di music."
