TWO FEMALES ACCUSED of being part of a team who kidnapped and robbed two insurance agents, were denied bail for the second time in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Tashena Bromfeild, 19, higgler, and an unemployed 17-year-old, appeared in court last Thursday along with Steve McCalla 34 to answer to the charges of robbery with aggravation, kidnapping and conspiracy. The three allegedly deceived two insurance sales agents from Life of Jamaica Insurance Company.
The women were called and a woman pretending to be a client said that she was interested in discussing a policy. When they arrived they were tied up, blind folded, beaten and the keys to their motor vehicles, cash and credit cards stolen.
Based on McCalla's hostile reaction in their last appearance to Bromfeild's statement that she had nothing to do directly with the incidents, RM Martin Gayle said the two women were to appear yesterday to have the case mentioned and his would be mentioned on April 27.
However, neither of the women were granted bail. While the investigating officer said Bromfield was co-operating with the police's investigation he said that they were against granting her bail as they are at a sensitive stage in the investigations. He said Lewis was not co-operating.
RM Gayle granted his request out of concern for Bromfeild's safety. "I don't want the next time the case is called we hear sad news," he said.
The women will return on April 27.
