TWO ST. CATHERINE men were arrested last week and charged for using stones to burst a policeman's head in Guys Hill in the parish, police told THE STAR.
The men, Ricardo Williams, 23, a barber, and Oshane Gray, 24, a labourer, both from Waterford district in Guys Hill, reportedly threw stones at the cop after he refused to let them into a function that was being held at a centre. Ironically, the function was being put on by members of the Guys Hill Police Youth Club.
The men have been charged with unlawful wounding and have been granted station bail. They are to appear in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court on April 26, police say.
Information reaching THE STAR indicate that the policeman, a constable, was on duty outside the gate where the function was being held. It is understood that about 1 a.m., the men approached the entrance and attempted to get inside, but were denied entry by the lawman.
An altercation reportedly developed during which the men collected several stones and flung at the officer. One of the stones caught the policeman in his head, flooring him, and the men fled.
The injured cop was taken to hospital where he was treated and released and a report made. The men were later picked up by the police in the community and charged.
