Why can't we use our brains for good?

IT TAKES CREATIVE minds to devise scams and to deceive. If only this creativity was being put to good use.

The lead story in yesterday's STAR spoke of the latest scam. It seems that corrupt individuals have found a way to benefit from Red Stripe's 'Beer Money A Run' promotion. How they come up with these ideas is simply amazing. These criminals manage to convince people that they have to pay before they can collect their supposed 'winnings'. What kind of sick mind generates these ideas?

If only these crooks would use their 'talent' for something worthwhile.

Recently also, the police cracked a car stealing ring in the Corporate Area. The alleged mastermind skilfully used a nail to carve numbers into fake vehicle identification plates. Imagine if this talent was transferred to something legal, there would be no stopping this young man.

It is often said that Jamaicans are talented people and this is very true. Only talented persons could devise the many clever scams that have come and gone. It takes talent and patience to sit with a nail and carve out numbers on a metal plate. Can these minds ever be brought back to the right path? Or are we to give up on them? Perhaps the only solution is to convince these people that they would stand to benefit even more if they would just use their gifts for the right purpose.
