Waterhouse lift title - DV says 'SORRY'

HARBOUR VIEW COACH Donovan Hayles last night apologised to Harbour View's fans after the Stars of the East were beaten 1-0 by Boys' Town at home, a result which handed Waterhouse the Wray and Nephew National Premier League title.

"It's very disappointing and all I can say is sorry to the fans and supporters for letting them down for another year," said a tearful Hayles, whose team blew a 13-point lead atop the league.

Ronny Amaguana, the team's terrier at right back, sat on the field in inconsolable fashion, long after the final whistle had blown.

Hayles, with tears welling, retreated to a lonely changing room.

The loss kept Harbour View on 63 points after starting the day two behind Waterhouse, needing a win to force an epic last-match showdown between the top teams.

Waterhouse made no mistake at home with Kevin Lamey booting in a 63rd minute free-kick, effectively winning the title for the Drewsland club.

Harbour View's demise came when George Vernal's 40th minute free-kick deflected heart-breakingly past Ryan Thompson to seal the deal.

"We led the competition for three quarters of the way and to come right now down to the death and then lose it like this is very difficult," said Hayles.

Lamey's goal not only ended harbour View's title hopes but also sentenced Constant Spring to the Super League next season.

FOOTBALL LUCK

"It's not the first time that a team has gone down," said Spring's coach Danny Lyn.

"Every team which has gone down has come back up. Maybe it is good to go down and rebuild and come back," he added.

"Basically, the ball didn't bounce our way this season. We lost a couple of games we shouldn't have and drew a couple of games that we shouldn't have drawn. Sometimes you need a little football luck and we haven't had any all year," Lyn pointed out.

In other games yesterday, that were more of statistical importance than anything else, Tivoli beat Reno 2-1 at Frome, while Rivoli and Portmore United drew 1-all at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Over at Jarrett Park, Wadadah and Arnett Gardens played to an action packed 3-3 draw.
