A JAPANESE MAN who was held in his attempt to take drugs out of the country in his underwear was fined after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Yoichsero Tokada, 22, of Osaka City in Japan who was before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday pleaded guilty to possession and attempting to export ganja.
"I just want to plead guilty and I beg for mercy," he told RM Winsome Henry when asked if he had anything to say.
Mr. Tokada who said he was in Jamaica for one week to sight-see, was fined $1,400 for possession and $2,000 for attempting to export. He will spend 30 days in custody if he does not pay the fines.
On April 2 at about 1:30 p.m. Mr. Tokada checked in to board an Air Canada flight to Toronto. Police at the security checkpoint noticed an irregular bulge in the front of his pants and took him to the search room.
A search of his person revealed two small packages of ganja in the front of his underwear. The packages totalled four ounces.
