A 31-YEAR-old woman who collected money from persons after advertising houses for rent was remanded in custody when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to the charge of larceny by trick.
She is Alecia Jones of Napole Drive, Angels Estate in St. Catherine.
The court learnt that on March 5, the complainant went to Jones' house after seeing a house advertised for rental and paid $32,000.00 for one month's rent and deposit.
One week later, the complainant went looking for Jones in an effort to occupy the house she was shown but Jones could not be found. She then made a report to the police.
An investigation by Constable Jason Ricketts of the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch resulted in Jones' arrest.
When Jones appeared before Resident Magistrate Lorna Gayle on April 4, she pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody until April 18 when she will be sentenced. She promised the court that she will pay back the money to the complainant.
