Patrons get busy at Stone Love, Jersey Party, held at the Stone Love headquarters, Burlington Road, Kingston, on Friday. - NATHANIEL STEWART
MUCH LIKE A team throwing in everything they have as a game heads towards its conclusion, there was a late surge at Friday's 'Jersey Party', held at Stone Love's Burlington Avenue, St. Andrew, headquarters.
There was an appreciable team of party people listening to Geefus and Kriss Kross on Stone Love in the dancehall 'earlies', rocking to Sizzla's Solid As a Rock as 3:00 a.m. rolled around. But half an hour later a steady flow of fresh legs came through the gate, some persons dressed jersey style as appropriate to the theme of the party.
"Big up all a de people. All when dem go odda party dem come a me," selector Geefus said. "We a bring back de House a Leo vibes, de Harbour View vibes, Tropics vibes, '90s vibes," he said and accordingly Vybz Kartel started off Gun Session with his 'buddy bye' take on Johnny Osbourne's Sleng Teng classic, the hands went up and the dancing began anew.
And the ladies ground their hips as Sizzla declared: "Haffi get de py but me naa rape," one Japanese lass touching the other and pointing out a slim but 'phat' yard lass bending over and going at it for the video cameras. One managed a Far East mini booty shake, the other settling for some mincing steps.
There was many a jersey gathered in the space before the selectors at Stone Love's headquarters in the early hours of Saturday morning: Geefus wearing a red NBA All-Star shirt with number 32, a Bulls 5, a Sixers 6, a Lakers 34 and Knicks 20. One leggy lass sauntered by THE STAR in a small, pleated skirt that had never seen a netball court but was guaranteed to make goal attacks out of many a man trying to breach the French defence.
A larger lady wore a number 35 long shirt/short dress that covered about 55 per cent of her body.
After Love Is and Give It A Try the music went slow, a forward coming for the invitation to Wine For Me, even as a Giants and Spurs 21 shirt came in through the gate. Elephant Man's 'bad man' take on the Answering Machine was replayed a couple times, the invitation to Drop It Like It's Hot followed by Bogle's dismissal of All Dem Deh.
After the surge of new persons, Gangster Rock rocked the house, Vitamin S and Dude got the ladies going and Saw teased I Got Your Man. There was Spragga Benz on dub, starting off the 'Hokey Dokey' rhythm by celebrating "de girl dem pretty like Miss Jamaica" and as THE STAR headed through the gate coming up to 4:00 a.m., Junior Reid was urging "stop deport de yutes dem" as the Jersey Party continued full swing.
