Drug trade the root of most crimes

SO, WE'VE RECEIVED two new coast guard vessels and are expecting another one soon. These are expected to help in the fight against drugs. This is a step in the right direction, as drug trafficking is serious problem.

While the acquisition of these vessels is a good thing, we hope they will be used for the right purposes by the right individuals. In other words, let's hope corruption can't swim.

CORRUPTION FREE

If this new thrust at stamping out the illegal drug trade can be carried out corruption free, great things can be achieved. Even though some people do not agree, drugs have helped to make the society lawless. Several crimes can be traced to the drug trade and many criminals are born out of this 'industry'. If we are to curb crime therefore, we must first address the sources.

Since a sizeable portion of illegal drugs leave the island by sea, having a state-of-the-art ship to intercept suspicious vessels is a very good idea.

It's no use watching the waters in vessels that can easily be outrun by those owned by criminals. These new ships, therefore, should give us a boost in the fight against drugs and crime.
