WADADAH WON THE St. James FA/Captain's Bakery Knock Out title and pocketed the $70,000 winners purse.
Goals by Daniel Rickettes, Raphael Palmer, Rohan Reid, Markieno Gillings and substitute Olivier Sewell gave them a big 5-0 victory over Salt Spring in Sunday night's final at Jarrett Park.
"We are quite pleased with this result because as you know we have not be having the best of season in the Wray & Nephew NPL," said Wadadah's coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams. "This means we will have something to show at the end of the season."
ONE-SIDED AFFAIR
In a game that started out evenly but became a one-sided affair in the latter stages, Salt Spring started out well but missed two good early chances to take the lead.
In the fifth minute Vinroy Allen tested goalkeeper Gavin Barrett with a powerful shot and in the 11th minute Asonie Binger lobbed a superb volley just wide of the goal.
With Wadadah coming into their own late in the half and looking quite ominous, they took the lead in the 39th minute.
On a mission down the middle of the field, Jermaine Anderson laid on a perfect pass to Rickettes and his grounder gave the goalkeeper no chance, making the half-time score 1-0.
Wadadah went further ahead five minutes into the second half when goalkeeper Kelistal Clarke slipped and fell while making a clearance and the ball fell at the feet of the unmarked Palmer. He calmly slotted into the unprotected goal, making the score 2-0.
OVERDRIVE
Mid-way the half Salt Spring went into overdrive, launching a series of raids on the Wadadah goal. They were awarded a penalty in the 78th minute when a Wadadah defender committed an infringement under pressure.
However, veteran Omar Clarke's spot-kick struck the upright and rebounded into play.
With Salt Spring seemingly deflated after their penalty kick miss, Wadadah again wrested control and went on a goalscoring spree on the stroke of full-time, notching three goals in three minutes.
Firstly, in the 90th minute, Rohan Reid booted home powerfully from a goalmouth melee. Immediately following the kick-off, Gillings won possession and made it 4-0 with a brilliant lob.
In time added Wadadah ended the rout when Sewell breached the tired Salt Spring defence and drove a powerful shot past goalkeeper Clarke.
