Patrons warm up for the party at the Golden Meadows Youth Club's Country Gramma Remix, held at Ignition Nightclub, Dunrobin Avenue on Saturday night. - WINSTON SILL
THE GOLDEN MEADOWS Youth Club Country Gramma Remix, staged at the Ignition Nightclub, Dunrobin Avenue, last Saturday night was a reasonably good party, even though officially it got off to a late start.
The patrons were slow in arriving at the venue and most congregated outside, seemingly feeling out the vibes, before making their way to the rooftop club.
The music courtesy of Renaissance, Code Red, DJ Phill Dawg, Little Richie and others was being juggled from minutes after 10 p.m. However, Country Gramma got exceptionally 'vibesy' after 3 a.m. when the selectors from Migraine International took over the turntables. At this time patrons who were earlier 'modelling and flossing' were now jumping, gyrating and 'bussing gun fingers' as they approved the songs being spun by the selectors.
From the crowd's response it was easy to tell that the Migraine International selectors found the perfect ingredients the patrons yearned for all night long. The other selectors were energetic and generated their fair share of vibes, but the on Migraine International selectors were just superb and the fact that the crowd had already lightened up meant that they didn't have to do much to get them going.
They started their set with I'm Alive, however, it was the fabricated Celine Dion featuring Vybz Kartel version that the crowd loved. Soon the dancers 'rolled out' unto the dance floor and the short skimpy skirts that the ladies were drawing down all night long were now making their way up the thighs.
When the selectors played Tempted to Touch, females could be seen trying to outdo each other in the gyrating arena. The introduction of the video lights bolstered the level of gyrating and the ladies just got even raunchier. This new found bit of competition was more than enough for the male patrons to feast their eyes on.
Earlier DJ Sonny P, who continually reminded the patrons that he left all the way from Portland to be at the party, played a good set. He interacted well with the patrons as he verbally introduced each song he played. He ended his set on a high note by capitalising on the fact that Beenie Man was passing through by playing Beenie's Hum Hum, to which the female patrons went berserk. Bumpers were being flung in the air and two couples blocked off the entry to the club as they 'wined down' to the ground.
However, despite all the hype it was really the Renaissance selectors that really set the trend that the others built on. They started the juggling that got the patrons to start venturing into the venue, with some long time dancehall favourites. Code Red then took over and did their thing and DJ Phill then followed and burnt a little fire.
All in all the party was good even though it was a late bloomer that took hours to generate some real solid vibes.
