Nine gunned down in two days

POLICE IN THE Corporate Area and Spanish Town, St. Catherine, had their hands full on the weekend as nine persons were slain between Friday and Saturday.

The bloody rampage began on Friday night when three men were killed in Spanish Town. Reports say about 11:25 pm, Omar McLean, 20, Lincoln Smith, 40, and Steven Gordon, 42, were at a jerk centre on St.John's Road when they were attacked by gunmen. They died at hospital. Four other men were injured in the incident.

The triple murder occurred two hours after Alexander Johnson, 35, was shot dead by gunmen at a shop in Fairview district, Spanish Town. Police say about 9:30 pm, Johnson was playing cards when he was approached by gunmen who killed him on the spot.

The killing spree continued into Saturday, with Romaine Rhoden, 19, being the day's first casualty. Reports say about 2 a.m. residents of Corletts Road, Spanish Town, heard explosions and Rhoden's bullet-riddled body was discovered in a yard shortly beffore 8 am.

In the Corporate Area, George Brown, 42, a carpenter, was shot dead near the Charles/Wildman Street intersection about 11 am, Saturday. Brown was walking when he was approached by gunmen who killed him on the spot. About 8 pm, Saturday night, businessman Errol Finnegan, 42, from Duhaney Park, St. Andrew, was shot dead in Hughenden. Reports say Finnegan stopped his vehicle to let off an employee. While parked, gunmen shot him several times. Finnegan returned fire from his licensed firearm but the killers escaped. Police took Finnegan to hospital where he died. The Constant Spring police believe Finnegan's attacker was hit and have launched a search for him.

Also Saturday evening, a man known only as 'Tacky', believed to be in his mid 20s, was shot dead as he rode his bicycle along Killarney Road in Vineyard Town, Kingston. A motor vehicle reportedly drove up beside him and the occupants opened fire. Less than two hours later, security guard, Balford Sinclair, 58, of Gordon Town Road, St. Andrew, was shot dead at his home. Residents reported hearing explosions about 9:40 pm. and Sinclair's body was later found with gunshot wounds.

Police officers carry out investigations on the body of George Brown, 42, a carpenter of Lydford Avenue Kingston 5. Brown was shot dead by gunmen near the intersection of Charles and Wildman Streets in downtown Kingston on Saturday.
