THE EDITOR, Madam:
Street lights are urgently needed at the intersection of Portmore Parkway and the entrance to the Portmore Town Centre Plaza. The junction is regularly used by pedestrians and become extremely dangerous to them due to the lack of street lights at nights.
The problem is when they want to cross from the Town Centre to the Passage Fort side or vice versa. The junction is very dark, resulting in the drivers being unable to see the pedestrians, who want to go from one side to the other.
In the area motorists have to travel on dim light thus reducing their visibility. They are not able to see the pedestrians until they are a few feet away from them. They don't see even persons with their hands raised until they are almost down on them. If the area is not sufficiently illuminated soon, many pedestrians will be hit-down.
Street lights should be installed on the Passage Fort side and on the side where the entrance to the plaza is located. This matter should be dealt with urgently. The residents of the Passage Fort Housing Scheme are most widely inconvenienced.
I am, etc,
V.L. ROGERS
