Downtown Kingston is Jamaica's busiest hub of activities for both small and large-scale businesses, but have you ever thought of what happens on a Sunday when the street sweepers, cart pushers, churchgoers and others are out?
The day is such a quaint contrast to the other six days of the week. No hustle and bustle, just quiet and peaceful.
I spoke to Deloris Francis, who stopped to buy bananas before she went into church. This shows how dedicated some Jamaicans are to their Sunday fellowship as many leave home without breakfast.
St. William Grant Park, which from my very short memory is one of the oldest parks in the Corporate Area, seems to receive no attention. Could we really be thinking of making Kingston into a tourist attraction and not consider fixing up this park?
Still, downtown is very important to Jamaica's survival. Where else do you find so many head offices of most of this country's most powerful firms? Maybe downtown is a little bit more important than most of us really think.
