EVERY ARTISTE HAS his fans and every music lover has his favourite artiste. But who does the Jamaican public favour? Beenie Man or Bounty Killer? Or maybe Sizzla? Anyway, no use in guessing. We wanted the real scoop, so we asked:
Who is your favourite living Jamaican entertainment artiste?
The results are in, and the people's choice is Beenie Man. An impressive 28 per cent named 'The Doctor' as their favourite artiste. Of this 28 per cent, 20 per cent were men, and a telling 35 per cent were females. The ladies obviously can't get enough of the doctor. Some distance away, but next nonetheless, was the crooner, Beres Hammond. Seven per cent of the people said he was their favourite. Bounty Killer was third with six per cent.
It was a close race indeed with one per cent margins separating several artistes. Four per cent of the people polled said Luciano was their favourite and this same number cited Vybz Kartel as their favourite. Strange how the same percentage of people could favour artistes who are so different in style and nature.
Based on these results, it would seem that Beenie Man's music appeals to persons of all ages, male and female, upper and lower class. The fact that such a large percentage of people say he is their favourite artiste says much about his music and its reach.
