CHAMPION TRAINER WAYNE DaCosta's speedy four-year-old filly, SI MI TRIAL, should blitz her 12 rivals with speed and more speed in tomorrow afternoon's 1000-metre straight George HoSang Trophy for Overnight Allowance runners.
Sparingly-raced after winning the Thornbird Stakes and 1000 Guineas before finishing a creditable third in the 10-furlong Oaks last season, SI MI TRIAL has been missing since November when she chased home A KING IS BORN in the Grade I Red Stripe Caribbean Sprint.
However, she looked as sharp as ever two Wednesdays ago, ripping 59.3 from the gate behind a half-mile split of 45.3, far quicker than her rivals could do in an actual race.
Drawn perfectly on the stands' side, SI MI TRIAL should streak into the lead and keep her distance from the American EXPLOSIVE PEAK, who is not badly drawn at post position five but comes in with topweight 57.0 kilos and hasn't looked all that keen at exercise.
JACKPOTS AT $1.5M
One happy punter made off with $3.7 million on Wednesday after snaring a tricky Pick-9, which had 7-1 shot ALERT THE PRESS as its toughest winner in the second race. The others were all due consideration but some close finishes put paid to a couple bankers such as RAMADA, QUEEN AIR and BLACK RIVER.
The Super-6 also paid well, 29 winning combinations each picking up $25,054. On a day of big payouts, the eighth race Hi-Five rewarded its winner with $289,087 before the same bet yielded $25,786.50 in the 10th.
With the Pick-9 and Super-6 back at their respective $1 million and $500,000 guarantees, it's a good time to make a run at $1.5 million with the big bettors probably still counting their winnings from Wednesday.
PITTACUS in the third event is a sound Pick-9 banker at 1820 metres after finishing fourth behind MIRACLE MAN in the 1400-metre Eros Trophy a month ago. The 2003 Red Stripe Superstakes winner has looked razor sharp at exercise and should lead home DaCosta's EXCLUSIVE RUNNER.
It's no use taking the field when a banker is available and VISCOSITY, along with INSTRUMENTHAL, won't be caught at 800 metres straight in the fourth and sixth races respectively with exercise riders aboard.
Similarly, TRUE SENSATION, now taking orders from Philip Feanny for the famed S&G Stables, has been looking up at exercise and won't lose at 1000 metres straight if she reproduces her 1:01.2 from the gate.
Track Price Plus Pick-6 bettors hunting an even-money horse should look no further than TRIPLE ACCOUNT in the opening event, going up against DaCosta's pair of HIDALGO and BULLET TRAIN.
HIDALGO beat a cheap field last time out and BULLET TRAIN won't stay a mile, handing the race on a platter to TRIPLE ACCOUNT, who found 2000 Guineas hopeful ALLIED FORCE too hot to handle on debut at 1400 metres.
