AT BUS STOP
It is alleged that on Saturday March 4 at 6:00 p.m., the complainant was at a bus stop along Eastwood Park Road in between Westminster Road and Burlington Avenue waiting with her Sagem phone in her hand.
The accused allegedly grabbed her from behind and grabbed unto the phone and told the complainant to give him the phone. Both allegedly began to wrestle for it when it fell from the complainant's hand. The accused allegedly picked it up and ran off down Eastwood Park Road and unto Westminster Road. Some concerned citizens, who saw what happened, went in search of the accused. A few minutes later someone told the complainant that they had held unto the accused. She walked down the road where she saw a group of people who showed her a phone and asked her if it was hers. She identified it as such and was asked if she recognised him and she said yes.
The police were called and about 10 minutes later they arrived and took the thief from the crowd and took him to the Half-Way Tree Police Station where he was charged.
Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle pointed out that the Half-Way Tree area seemed to be plagued with phone thieves as several cases have come before the court in recent months. "Nobody can use their cellphone in peace. Once it ring dem in problem," he said before handing down the sentence.
