Stolen Shih-tzu - CONTRIBUTED
A DOG, KIDNAPPED from its owner at gun point on Saturday, was rescued by the Constant Spring Police and reunited with its owner yesterday.
The white Shih-tzu poodle was recovered after an advertisement in The Gleaner in which a reward was offered for the dog's return.
The police have held one person who is being questioned about the theft and have also launched a search for the four armed thieves who committed the robbery.
According to police, the thieves swooped down on the owner at 9:00 p.m. Saturday night while she was walking the white Shih-tzu poodle along Swallowfield Drive in Havendale, St. Andrew. The four men, who were travelling in a green Suzuki Vitara, were all armed with guns and proceeded to hold up the owner and steal the dog. The owner was not harmed
A report was made to the police.
The advert about the missing animal which ran in yesterday's Gleaner resulted in a call to the dog's owner at 10:30 a.m. by someone who claimed he knew of the dog's whereabouts.
ONE PERSON HELD
The caller told the owner she could collect the dog at his friend's workplace. The police along with the owner went to the location where one person was held and the animal recovered.
The police say they suspect the four thieves may have committed several other robberies that same night and had intended to sell the animal which currently has a market price of $15,000.
The owner of the dog could not be contacted for a comment up to press time.
