Slower rhythms please Vegas

Mr. Vegas. - FILE

THE PACE AND tempo of a rhythm is an all important factor for Mr. Vegas. He says the slower rhythms are more suited to his voice and style.

'Di slower rhythm dem, dem suit my style more, cause mi can get fi swing good melody round di rhythm and people can get fi hear mi more wa mi a seh. My voice sits well on rhythms weh have a tempo of 88, 85, 95-100 beat per rhythm. Once it start guh ova dat, it too fast, an it hard for me, me is not a deejay,' Vegas said.

However, it is evident that when the fast-paced rhythms take over the dancehall and the charts, Vegas is usually left to linger in the shadows.

'During dat time, yuh find seh mi nah hit dem time deh, Vegas nuh deh up deh pon di charts, cause mi caan guh pon di rhythm weh seh 'Jiggy Jiggy', 'Ova di wall', 'Weddy Weddy' an dem ting deh, suh di people dem nah work wid Vegas,' he said.

Some of the rhythms that Vegas enjoyed working on are all slower rhythms, most of which he says brought him some major hits.

'Heads High rhythm, Playground, Bookshelf by Tony Kelly, Underwater, Baddis weh did have Taxi Fare and Jacket, di one drop rhythm called 'Old School' with Do You Know, dat a di sweetest rhythm fi di year,' Vegas said.
