Shoot-out for cows

THE SOUNDS OF gunfire rang out across Plantation Walk in Dallas Castle, St. Andrew, on Tuesday as gunmen battled police in an attempt to secure four cows they had stolen from farmers.

Police say that at about 4:30 p.m. they were conducting routine checks in the area, when they were informed that cattle were being stolen in the area.

They eventually spotted a group of men with four cows, fitting the description given by a farmer. On seeing the police, the men pulled handguns and opened fire at them.

The police took evasive action and returned fire, whereupon the men fled in different directions, reluctantly leaving their stolen animals.

The cows were not harmed during the incident, but it is believed that one of the robbers may have been shot. The Papine police will be investigating the matter.
