Two police officers, a sergeant and an inspector, were shot and injured in separate incidents, in just two days. The inspector is now battling for life in hospital.
In the latest incident of violence against the police, the sergeant, who is stationed in the Kingston Western division, was shot and injured by gunmen at Church Pen, in Old Harbour.
The Constabulary Com-munications Network reported that at about 12:05 a.m. yesterday, the sergeant was at a shop playing dominoes when a grey Toyota Corolla motorcar drove up behind the table at which they were playing. Four men exited the vehicle, two armed with handguns, and immediately opened fire on the officer.
The men failed in their attempts to kill the officer and he was only shot in his knee.
In the other incident, an inspector was shot and injured on Tuesday morning. When The STAR checked on the officer's recovery state yesterday he was said to be still battling for life in hospital. The inspector, sta-tioned at the St. Ann's Bay police station, was shot at the gate of his home.
Police say that at about 1:30 a.m., the officer drove up to his gate, where he was attacked by three men armed with guns.
He was admitted in serious condition and has since re-mained in a critical state.
The St. Ann CIB will be investigating the matter.
