Gentle wheeze for Japanese

SIX JAPANESE WHO were in the island recording songs may have got more than the love of Jamaican music as they found themselves before the courts on ganja charges.

The six men pleaded guilty to possession of ganja and chillum pipe. Charged are Yoshihiro Tomewake, 27; Kenichi Komiya, 27; So Saski, 27; Mitsuru Ando, 30; Taiji Takashima, 24 and Mashiro Fukuda, 27.

Allegations are that on February 23 at 5:00 a.m. police from the Half-Way Tree station with a search warrant went to apartment 46 at 19 Seymour Avenue , Kingston 10, where they saw six Japanese who spoke little English.

CHILLUM PIPE

During the search of the house, one blue glass bottle chillum pipe, which had a clay-ware containing ganja and was burnt at the top, was found on a whatnot. The six were informed of the offence of possession chilum pipe.

A further search revealed two ounces of loose ganja under the settee and seven transparent packages each with ganja. The drug was shown to men, and they were informed of the charges of possession of ganja.

Their attorney begged the court not to deport the men, noting that they would pay their fines and return home soon.

The men were fined $300 or ten days for possession of ganja and Tomewake, who accepted guilt, for the chillum pipe, was fined $500 or ten days.
