WOLMER'S BOYS YESTERDAY advanced to round three of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz competition after they defeated St.George's College, 51-28.

The match was keenly contested and it was not until the third segment that Wolmer's Boys took control. Captain of St.George's team, Peter Price believed however that his team began faltering badly in the second segment. He told the STAR, "It was a well fought contest for both sides but Wolmer's had the upper hand in terms of speed. They also appeared more confident and this could have given them a psychological boost."

The first section of the match was evenly played and culminated in a tie, with both teams locked on nine points. In the one-minute segment however, Wolmer's began to pull away from their opponents and gathered a total of 20 points. St.George's did put up a commendable fight during that segment. At the end of that section, Wolmer's Boys held a small lead with 29 points, while St. George's was on 26.

Wolmer's Boys played a very impressive third segment and answered correctly all of the 11 questions they attempted. Although they tried desperately, St.George's College failed to keep up, answering only four questions correctly. They also provided some humour when they attempted to name one of the parties who signed the Treaty of Paris. To this they confidently replied, "England". Seeing that the judges were unsure, they further offered, ".....Britain......um.....UK?" The sound of the final bell brought cheers of jubilation from the crowd.

The captain of the Wolmer's team, Ocasta Haye, was satisfied with his team's performance and felt that they did well. He told the STAR, "It was a good match, we did a lot of work and it shows. We are happy to reap the rewards of our hard work."

Members of the Wolmer's team: Dorian Beckford, Jabari Wellington, Ocasta Haye (capt.), Charles Ball.

Members of the St. George's Tea: Michael Clarke (capt.), Orrin Carr, Ronald Emmanuel, Michael Duncan.

Next match: Old Harbour High vs. Camperdown High.
