THE STREETS OF Willemstad in Curaçao came alive on Saturday night with the sound of music as local bands got the chance to showcase their lyrical and musical abilities.
Several tourists and locals turned out to listen and dance to the sounds of their favourite bands, which included Guess, Rumba Band, ERA, Real Magic and No Game.
Two stages set up at either side of the street was able to facilitate the playing of two bands at a time. Patrons moved between both areas freely as they enjoyed music.
Beauty queens Terri-Karelle Griffith, Miss Jamaica World 2005, Rychacviana Coffie, Miss Curaçao Universe 2005, and Chelsea Cooley, Miss U.S.A. Universe 2005, were also there.
Griffith said it was her first time to carnival in Curaçao. Shortly before midnight, the music stopped while presentations were made to Jurivino Jansen, the Pancho, and Raili Martina, the Prince of Carnival.
Reiniev Lyfrock, King of Tumba and Calypso, was also presented with plaques for his achievement, while Miss Curaçao Universe was given a plaque for being the Queen of Carnival.
After the presentations, Lyfrock returned to the stage with his band No Game and whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his calypso and tumba tunes. Patrons danced and rocked to the sounds as the music filled the air.
Reggae was not to be left out as around the corner from the main event a sound system played several reggae hits to a small gathering of people who wanted the Jamaican vibe.
Even as the THE STAR left the venue sometime after 12:30 a.m. it was obvious that the patrons had no intention of leaving as more continued to pour into the venue to enjoy the carnival parade.
