Ardenne crush Rusea's

LUCK WOULD NOT be on the side of Rusea's High in their match draw as they had to endure the intense competition and an inevitable 51-25 defeat from Ardenne High in the latest TVJ Schools' Challenge Quiz match.

The first section saw an immediate command of the match by Ardenne High, who despite a fair show of competition from Rusea's High, more than doubled their opponent's score of 6 points, with 15 points.

STRUGGLED

The speed section was the same, as Rusea's High struggled to hold the pace of their opponents. They did so quite well in the first minute of the round, but were unable to maintain their strong pace.

Rusea's High even answered some relatively simple questions incorrectly, like "Who was the president of the United States of America that preceded George Bush." Rusea's answered "Ronald Reagan" but the correct response should have been Bill Clinton.

By the end of the speed section, Ardenne still held a considerable lead, with 33 points, almost doubling Rusea's High's 17 points.

A point was added for Rusea's High where their response of "Salt and Water" to the question "When bases react with acids, what are formed," was deemed to be correct. The team also gained another point for a correct response by Rusea's team member, Jermaine Young, that was ruled to have beaten the bell.

Their score now stood at 19, entering the buzzer section.

Despite a strong display of international knowledge from Jermaine Young from the Rusea's High team, the Glen Archer trained Ardenne High would not be denied. Executing an almost flawless round, the team closed the match with a landslide victory of 51 points, to Rusea's High's final score of 25 points.

BACK TO DRAWING BOARD

"Every first match is a window through which you can see where the team stands. We thank God for this win, but its back to the drawing board to correct deficiencies in their manner of play," outlined Ardenne's coach, Glen Archer.

Despite a heavy loss, Rusea's High were not discouraged by the defeat.

"It was a keenly played match. We played well, but Ardenne is a strong team and they won ... we just got a bad draw," said Rusea's High team captain, Nafhara Johnson.

Their team coach was also pleased with their performance, despite the loss.

"It was a good experience for the team. They played well and did put up a fight...they will be improving in their weak areas, and should reach at least quarter-finals next year," said Rusea's High School's team coach, Latoy Johnson-Lewis.
