Bac' again! - Bacchanal Jamaica opens with a bang

BY TEINO EVANS, Staff Reporter

This reveller is getting on bad at Bacchanal Jamaica's official opening of the 2006 Carnival Season last Friday at the Mas Camp, Oxford Road, New Kingston. See the costumes for this year in tomorrow's STAR - WINSTON SILL

IT WAS ONE of the biggest opening nights for Bacchanal Jamaica, where crowd support was concerned, when the group staged a first in a series of soca fetes to be held at the Mas Camp Village on Oxford Road in New Kingston, last Friday.

The event, dubbed 'Legend of the Niles', saw the majority of patrons turning out after 11:00 p.m.

As patrons moved their bodies to the sound of Sparkles Disco and 'the party animal' Kurt Riley, there was no doubt that the vibe and energy would have been maintained at a high level throughout the duration of the night.

LOOSEN UP

All came perfectly prepared to loosen up and have fun as the attire was a telltale sign. Females came clad in short, tight shorts and tank tops, others in tight jeans, while the males either wore jean shorts and T-shirt or sweat pants and merinos.

The tunes spun on the turntables were a mix of both old and new soca tunes, while 'the party animal' made sure to maintain a dancehall presence inside of Mas Camp, as the likes of TOK, Sizzla and Tony Matterhorn all had tunes on soca rhythms, specially for this year's carnival season.

Patrons were encouraged to get on bad, as inviting soca tunes asking, 'why don't you come over, cause I'm a bachelor', while telling patrons to Push It, Anytime and you 'must get a nookie tonight' were all patrons needed to hear to wine and gyrate the night away.

Some females in very short, tight shorts, had no problem dropping to their knees on the bare asphalt, while their male partners played 'bump and grind' at the rear. One man was even lucky enough to just lie on his back, while several females took turns to 'ride the rhythm'.

Patrons, though, were clearly still warming up to the new soca songs for this season, especially the inclusion of more hardcore dancehall artistes dropping soca songs into the mix, as it was the old favourites that really rocked the crowd.

Tunes like Wi Nuh Want Nuh Chi Chi Man In Di Dance are always a hit with the crowd for clear reasons, while Insane, Wata, Hand In Di Air, Look Di Band Coming, Di Bumpa Catch A Fire, Tempted To Touch and others garnered the biggest crowd responses for the night.

It was clear that the majority of patrons, who turned out on Bacchanal Jamaica's opening night of soca fetes, had a grandioso time.
