Excelsior pump up hot streak

PATRICE CLARKE SCORED A brace for Excelsior as her team ran out 2-0 winners over St. Hugh's yesterday, to boost their record going into Monday's final of the Jamaica Hockey Federation/Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Under-19 schoolgirls hockey competition.

Excelsior now have a maximum 18 points and are favourites to take the competition.

That result at the Mona Hockey Turf, coupled with a 4-0 win by Wolmer's over Papine, left three teams - Wolmer's, Alpha, and St. Andrew - still in with a chance of making the final.

Alpha and Wolmer's have the best chance with both teams on nine points and having each other to play. A win for any of the teams will put them in the final.

St. Andrew on the other hand have to worry about the other two. With one game to go they have eight points and must win, then hope that the game between Alpha and Wolmer's ends in stalemate.

Wolmer's put themselves in a good position to challenge for a place in the final on the back of a two-goal performance from Shanae Armstrong. Keisha-Gayle Walker and Naifa Murray scored the other goals.

The competition will continue today with St. Andrew playing against St. Hugh's at 1:00 p.m.

In the boys' competition, the third-place play-off between dethroned champions Jamaica College and Mona High taps off at 2:00 and the final between Munro and Papine will start at 3:30 p.m.
