Dear Pastor,
I am writing so that other Jamaican women do not fall in a similar trap as I did. I found myself in a situation in the Bahamas with a so-called decent, intelligent, very smooth and slick businessman who employs foreign maids. He lives alone. I got involved in a secret relationship with the man I was supposed to be working for and what I found out about him makes me sick and could cost me my life.
The man is a male whore. He only sleeps with foreign maids because he grants them work permits to live comfortably from immigration. Bahamian women are actually in line thinking they will be the next Mrs. .., which is none of my business, but my contention with him was that he drew me, an innocent, unsuspecting maid, into his messy lifestyle and AIDS is so prevalent in their country. He gets intimate with those who are foolish enough to believe his stories.
I got the first call from a Jamaican friend to say her Bahamian girlfriend asked her to warn me about an AIDS rumour that was being spread about him and his ex-wife. As if all this was not enough, I had introduced two of my relatives to him. I went on leave and each took turns working for me. He backed one of them in the bathroom and attempted to fondle her. She pushed him away and ran out. The other, he trapped in his bedroom with an x-rated cassette and asked her to watch it with him. He got jobs for one of them twice and they both lived in his rented apartment so it must have been a favour in return for his help.
Just imagine if I hadn't made it known to them that we were involved. I tried to make up for what the person I took over from, had done to him with her Jamaican boyfriend. According to him, they stole cable and satellite parts from his house. He has a story for every new helper that has left before. I believe I was the only one who challenged him. All I had in me was revenge and bitterness.
EYE FOR AN EYE
The man caused me to believe that Moses' law 'an eye for an eye' was right. I realised though, that a man like that will destroy you from undercover while sleeping with you.
He uses his secretary, families and friends to tell people that I am dishonest and that I stole all his money. My only regret is that I didn't take a good five or six thousand dollars for what he has done to us or that I didn't go ahead and castrate him that morning, instead of taking pictures of him lying there like a naked zombie waiting for its prey. He can't afford for anyone to know the truth about him. He searched my private things before I left his house and took away my pictures, and read the letter I wrote to the Department of Immigration.
Any female can be fooled by this man. He has a smile that can trap the devil. With me, all he had to do was remind me of how his ex-wife ripped him off to zero. The only thing I didn't agree to do for him was to walk into the courtroom and lie to the judge for him on a couple Bahamian tenants, whose light and water I know he disconnected.
He is either a sick man or a very evil one. I used to listen to him mimic his former house maids and Jamaican tenants on how they spoke badly. He mocked and jeered the ones that speak deep patois and constantly asked me what part of Jamaica they were from. I could have been writing you this letter from Fox Hill Prison, but I thank God that I am not. At least I have put an end to the exploitation.
E. G., Jamaica
Dear E. G.,
You have written a long letter accusing this man of being a deceiver and seducing his female employees, including you. If you think that you have been unjustly treated and you have a good case against this man, you should retain a lawyer and seek redress.
