America not a bed of roses

Dear Pastor,

I am 23 years old and am living in the United States of America for 10 years. Ever since I've been here, nothing has been red carpeted for me. My father's side of the family is living here, but I live alone and I support myself on a full-time job, without any help from my father. For the last two years I've been trying to earn a bachelor's degree. It's been so hard to go to school and work at the same time.

Whenever I try to do something that would benefit me in the future, it just seems to always fall through. Sometimes I think I have demons around me, trying to cause me to fail. I know it's not something nice to say, but it just seems that way. I get so disappointed because I'm so driven for a career and I can barely get to it. Whoever thinks that America is a bed of roses is so wrong. It works for some and looks very dull for others. I don't want to be criticised, this is just my opinion and how I am feeling.

Pastor, please pray for me. It just seems so stormy right now and I'd like to see some brighter days ahead.

Dear M. F.,

You will accomplish your goal if you learn to take a step at a time. If you try to accomplish everything at once, you will be come frustrated and depressed and may even be tempted to quit. Remember that 'Rome was not built in a day.' Get rid of this silly idea that 'demons' are about you. Perhaps, you are creating your own demons. Take a positive approach to life and you will be amazed how well you will do.

Learn to think good thoughts of others and about yourself. Love yourself, my dear. Happy people are people who have learned to love, even their enemies. Every morning or every evening, take time to pray and to read your Bible and as often as possible, go to church.

Pastor
