OMAR WYNTER, A labourer of Lucea, was fined $5000 after he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm in the Lucea Resident Magistrate's Court last week.
The court heard that during an altercation on Saturday January 7, Wynter threw a piece of building block at his girlfriend, which hit her on the right side of her face, injuring her.
During the hearing, Wynter told Resident Magistrate George Burton, it was the complainant and not he, who had started the altercation.
"She come to my house at 7 o' clock that morning and start an argument. I told her something she did not like and she teck up a piece of block and lick mi," he said.
The RM responded by telling Wynter to avoid conflict with the complainant as she was pregnant with his child, but Wynter shook his head, put up his hand and said: "I am not certain if that (child) one is for me," causing the courtroom to erupt in laughter.
"I am not di assaulter, she is," he said. "Sometimes mi work an come home an want fi give her lickle lovin, an she no inna dat. She say that is woman yard mi deh come from. Mi love har, but she not giving me di livity weh mi want. Sometimes she lef and gone all eight day wit mi lickle child an lef mi inna sleepless nights!" Wynter added.
Before handing down his sentence, the RM encouraged Wynter to seek assistance from a counsellor to "sort out your differences,". "You can't continue like this," he said.
