Facelesswanted men

THE POLICE ARE preparing to release the names of 24 of Jamaica's most wanted men who are being sought for crimes committed in various police divisions across the island. But of the 24, the police only have photographs for five of the individuals.

"There are some people who we can't get photographs for. If the persons were not arrested before then chances are we won't have photographs of them," Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) George Williams, in charge of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) headquarters, downtown Kingston, said. "We can't ask the families of the wanted men as they are not obligated to give us. The ones who we have photos for were arrested before."

The five men whose photos are available are Adrian Campbell and Omar Lewis, both wanted by the St. James police for murder; Ricardo 'Ricky Black' Wright of Kingston 20, wanted by the St. Andrew South police for murder; a man known only as Asha, wanted by the Kingston Eastern police for murder, while Joseph Woodside is wanted in St. Elizabeth for murder.

The lack of photos has obviously caused a problem in the apprehension of the wanted men. "We usually send the photos to the divisions. If the officer is new to the division then the men there as well as the photos will help them. But, for those without photos, it can be difficult because someone new to the division may not know what they look like," said ACP Williams.

However, unlike other countries where descriptions are used to come up with a computerised sketch of accused persons, that technology is said to be unavailable here as it is being updated. "All I can say on that, is that it is being dealt with. We are working on it," said ACP Williams. "People give us description of the accused persons if it is someone we know of, if they were involved in a previous crime then the new officers in the division are informed."

Among the other men wanted for murder are 'Aston' otherwise called 'Rooster' and Kemar Waysome, both wanted by the Savanna-la-Mar police for a double murder committed in August 2004; Jermaine 'Droppy' Kerr and Rohan 'baldhead' Barnes, wanted by the St. James police; Verol Danville, Oniel Daley, Brishield Burke, 'Nicholas' or 'Motley' and Mark Anthony who are all wanted for murders in the Corporate Area, St. Catherine South and St. Thomas.

MURDERED DISABLED COUPLE

Also on the long list include Charlie Junior, wanted for murder, rape and abduction. Junior is being sought for the murder of a disabled couple, Shawn Kirkland and his common-law-wife. They were reportedly taken from their home, Kirkland was shot dead and his common-law-wife sexually assaulted.

Troy McKenzie and a man called 'Pastor', are being sought for murders in St. James. They are connected with the discovery of two bodies in a shallow grave in Canterbury in 2003. Other names on the list are, 'Micky Foreigner', 'Troy', 'Bald Head' and 'Wang' who are all wanted for a double murder committed in the Kingston 20 area in 2004. Marlon 'Backto' Brown and Tyron Tait are wanted by the South St. Andrew police.

The CIB headquarters supplies the names of the persons who are wanted for various crimes across the island. The files, including warrants of arrest, are passed on to the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) where it is published.

The list supplied by the CIB headquarters does not include other names on previous lists such as Mark Bromley and 'Nunu Puss' who are wanted in the Kingston Western Division for several murders.
