Negril teen's body washes ashore

THE BODY OF Ouando Douglas, 16, of Sheffield in Negril, Westmoreland, who was reported missing on Friday, after encountering difficulties in the waters of Negril Beach, was found near Norman Manley Boulevard on Monday.

Police say that at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Douglas and his brother were swimming at Negril Beach, where they got into difficulties as currents pulled them away from shore.

The brother was rescued by brave fishermen, but Ouando was swept away by strong currents. Marine police and local divers made a futile search for Douglas.

At approximately 5 a.m. on Monday morning, the teen's body was discovered washed up near Norman Manley Boulevard, and police were summoned. The body was retrieved and taken to the morgue.

Negril police are investigating the incident.
