SPANISH TOWN
A RESIDENT MAGISTRATE ordered the immediate release of a man held in custody for more than four months in an alleged case of robbery, without being charged, following an application before the court on Wednesday.
The habeas corpus application was made in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court by attorney-at-law Sheldon Codler, on behalf of Delroy Morrison, who has been in custody since August. Codler told RM Carol Edward that his client was held on August 1 by the Spanish Town police for robbery.
FACE IDENTIFICATION PARADE
He says Morrison was subsequently escorted to St. Ann to face an identification parade and is now at the Greater Portmore Police Station.
The RM made an inquiry as to why Mr. Morrison has been held, and was told by an investigator from Portmore that he was to face another ID parade.
The RM would have none of it. She said in recent times the police have shown no regards to the court and Morrison, being a citizen of this country, must be released immediately. The policeman promised to take the instructions to his superiors.
