SPANISH TOWN
CONTINUING THEIR offensive against extortion in Spanish Town, the police took several men from the bus park into custody yesterday.
The men, popularly known as 'back up men', were detained by a strong contingent of police. The men held each other in a chain-like manner as they were escorted to the nearby Spanish Town Police Station.
St. Catherine North Detective Inspector Derrick Champagnie says the police will be going all out to rid the streets of the Old Capital of extortionists and all other level of criminality.
"We will leave no stones unturned as crime is crime, be it corruption, rape, murder or extortion, the police have a job to do and will be doing just that," he said. A strong detachment of police is still maintaining a presence throughout the streets of Spanish Town and, according to Assistant Commissioner Reginald Grant, this will continue until it is safe to all persons going about their lawful businesses.
